Powerhouse Smoothie
This is my favorite, powerhouse green smoothie that I drink almost every morning. It’s incredibly filling and packed with nutrition. I attribute a lot of my good health to this daily dose of awesomeness!
Made with all ORGANIC ingredients
10-12 cups raw greens (kale, chard, spinach, etc.)
1 medium sized apple
1 handful dandelion greens
4 sprigs
1 cup frozen berry blend
2-3 stalks celery
1/4 of an avocado
5-7 cardamom seeds
2 tablespoons MCT oil
1 tablespoon cacao
2 tablespoons raw organic hemp seeds
8 ounces purified drinking water
1 whole lemon
1 1/2-inch slice of turmeric
3-4 cups of ice
This recipe is enough for two people and usually yields 50-60 ounces.
Directions: Start by adding greens and water to blender. Mix on high until greens are thoroughly broken down. Add fruit and celery to greens mixture followed by turmeric, avocado and lemon. Add hemp, cacao, MCT, and cardamom to mixture while blending to ensure thorough distribution. Mix until blended, mixture should be slightly thick. Add ice and blend thoroughly. Drink and be healthy!
Ideally smoothies should be consumed immediately after preparing to maximize nutrient absorption however; it can be stored in a glass container for up to eight hours to enjoy throughout the day.
Smoothies should be consumed on an empty stomach (yes, even before coffee). For maximum nutrient absorption try and wait 45-60 minutes before consuming any other food or beverage. Feel free to substitute your favorite fruits/greens but remember that the greens to fruit ratio should be at least 80%-20%
Useful tip: Buy a great blender! Seriously….as in a really, really great blender. I use a Vitamix and although it's expensive it's the most used appliance in my house. I use it for a variety of other things including, preparing raw almond milk, making gazpacho, and grinding dry herbs. You can also buy refurbished Vitamix blenders online for much less than retail.
