Preparing for Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal is an in-office process that can be done either on your lunch break or your own scheduled time. With virtually zero to little downtime required, laser hair removal can get rid of your unwanted hair in no time. However, before you go in for your first of several treatments, it’s important to know how to properly prepare your skin.No Waxing, Tweezing, or ThreadingIf you can’t live with any amount of hair on your body, then this preparation step might be a lot for you to digest. It is recommended that patients who are about to undergo laser hair removal, skip waxing, tweezing, or electrolysis for four weeks prior to their treatment session. Why exactly? By interrupting the hair follicle, these three things will also interrupt your laser hair removal procedure and make it more difficult— if not impossible— for the hair to be targeted.Avoid Sun ExposureIf you are a beach bum or bunny, this step might be hard for you to stick to. However, it’s just as important as the step above. Over exposure to the sun can cause hyperpigmentation especially after you have laser hair removal done— so try to avoid the sun for at least a few weeks before your laser hair removal session. Avoid Retin-ARetin-A is a topical prescription cream used to treat fine lines and wrinkles, sun spots, acne scars, and even acne itself. However, Retin-A can also cause your skin to become extremely sensitive to things like the sun and light— causing burning. IF you are using topical Retin-A, it’s important that you’re off of it for at least 3-5 days prior to your laser skin removal treatment.By following the above suggestions in preparing for your laser hair removal procedure, you can help to ensure that everything goes as quick and smoothly as possible.
