Caring for Your Skin After a Chemical Peel
- Posted on: Dec 30 2015
Chemical peels are an excellent way to help fortify your skin and rid it of skin impurities that cause things like acne and wrinkles. And when done on a regular basis, you can really start to notice some dramatic results that will make you feel (and look) like a million bucks. As one of the most important aspects of getting a chemical peel, however, the aftercare is something that is often overlooked. Read on to learn more about how you can better care for your skin after you receive a chemical peel.
1.Avoid the Sun
Nothing will add to a fire quite like some gasoline and a few matches. A similar concept can be applied to caring for your skin after a chemical peel. Because you are essentially using a chemical to burn off the top layers of your skin, nothing can be quite as harmful as spending a lot of added time in the sun. For at least a week or two after you receive your chemical peel, make sure to spend most of your time indoors and not outdoors. If you simply can’t avoid heading outdoors, wear a large brimmed hat that will cover the majority of your face.
2. Stay Hydrated
One of the best things you can do for your body when it’s trying to heal itself is to stay hydrated and drink plenty of water each day. As a general rule, you should be drinking at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water every day. So next time you go grab for that additional glass of Diet Coke, consider going for a water instead.
As mentioned above, because chemical peels involve applying harsh chemicals directly to your skin, it’s important to stay moisturized as your skin heals itself. Simply apply a thick moisturizing lotion or cream across your face both morning and night— after you wash your face. This will not only help your skin heal faster but it will also help you to feel more comfortable as well.
